A little back tracking....

We have realized that we have left out so many events and places that we have gone throughout our first harrowing 2 weeks in India so we want to back track for a moment if that is okay.
June 1 - Flight to India and we knew it would be an adventure from the moment before the plane took off and the flight attendants had to spray some sort of bug spray throughout the cabin for some strange reason. I, of course, covered my mouth and nose while Alex breathed deeply and inhaled all the luscious fumes.
June 2 and 3 Delhi - a little piece of heaven here on earth...not really. Despite the chaos and panic of Delhi, we managed to see Humayun's Tomb, the Parliament Building, India Gate, the Lotus Temple (very good acoustics), Red Fort, a Hindi Temple (there are millions here), Ashoka Pilar, Gandhi's Memorial, Kashmiri Gate, a Muslim Temple (there are millions here as well), Jama Masjid, as well as our first extremely disturbing ride on a rickshaw in which a starving homeless woman with her baby in her arms chased us through the busy streets of Delhi begging for some money or food.
June 4 Agra - Taj Mahal and the Monkey Temple. Eh, we saw the Taj Mahal it was lovely, but I actually enjoyed the monkey temple so much more, as Alex has an innate fear of monkeys and the literally come up to you for food. It is cute at first, but then you soon realize that they are wild and want those nuts! THey have these little hands that touch you and then they look at you all cute until you have no more nuts and then you have to sprint back to your taxi for fear of your life. I know we all saw that poor woman on Oprah who was accosted by her friend's pet monkey and was left with no face or hands...just a thought.
June 5 and 6 Jaipur - Allen B (actually called LMB) for the best food in India with our Swiss friend and an English girl named Chloe who had been bitten by a wild indian dog and shit herself while riding in a jeep due to Delhi Belly...she was great dinner company. We went to Jantar Mantar which is this Alice in Wonderland type garden or random sculptures and it was fantastic, although people continually ocme up to Alex to touch her tattoos to see if they are forever and then they hand me their babies to hold and take pictures with me. Poor children go limp in my arms...We also attempted to attend the cinema which was an experience we cannot even explain and it all started when our drivers drove us out to the theater and then refused to drive us back unless we bought them movie tickets. When we had to agree, they stripped off their work shirts to reveal some spiffy going out attire, which consisted of track suit bottoms and a t-shirt from the 1990s American pop culture i.e. terminator with Hasta la Vista Baby on it. Back to the hotel, we ate off a street vendor for the first time...yummy samosa and then bought 100 mangoes and ate them all on the roof top terrace of our hotel while watching a light show on the fort. We then went to the Umber Fort (the favourite of the 100 forts we've seen) and went to another Muslim Mosque.
June 7 and 8 Pushkar - Our favourite place so far! We did have the camel incident which we spoke about in a previous blog post, but other than that, this place was truly shanti shanti. We spent most of our time walking around the city and up a mountain to a tiny temple on top. We both did a pee on the mountain like true Indians! It was fantastic. We ate a delicious pizza and also had "the incident" with the special lassi. We attempted to walk to the Shiva Temple, but were unsuccessful due to some wild dogs chasing us down the street in the opposite direction from the temple. We eventually lost them and found respite with some random monkey charmer man who was feeding 100s of monkeys on the side of the road. We spent some well - needed and deserved respite at Base Camp with the most relaxed man ever. He made us chai with his secret pinch of powder and we just relaxed and spoke broken English for a few hours.
June 9 Jodhpur - Mel is sick...again...just a cold, but we stayed in a watched Indian Idol...wow that was interesting.
June 10 Jodhpur - Since we only had one day, due to Mel's illness, we walked the whole of Jodhpur from the fort (yes, another fort) to the Jaswant Thada which is a lovely temple with a garden. We also got lost through the town and markets specializing in bicycles, cloth and spices. We got some Indian sweets and they were really very tasty. Having overdosed on mangoes, we have now moved onto Indian apples...delicious....crunchy and sweet like Pink Ladies. We saw our first cat in India and two Indian Dwarfs that we assume are married in an arranged marriage. We also now know why there are no nappies in this country, as we saw a 2ish year old bending down in the man-made gutters of the village taking a shit down the wall. She looked up at us and smiled.
Which brings us to today,
June 11 Udaipur - Lovely mountain drive from Jodphur. The nicest hotel so far...driver has now left us and we are on our own. We saw an elephant take the biggest piss ever downhill towards us like a tidal wave and we had to throw our bags off a cliff to avoid them being drenched by piss. We also saw some horrific dead cow on the side of the road that was very bloated. We stopped at the Ranapool Temple and the Saheliyon-Ki-Bari Garden which also had the best science museum in the world. I cannot wait to figure out how to upload the pics of this museum. It was like my eighth grade science fair . We had our first Indian snack of Orange Fanta and Balaji Wafers chat chaska flavour (crisps). Now off to eat at a German owned cafe/bakery. Will blog again soon!
