Busted!

This blog is all about not judging a book by its' cover...one of my favourite sayings. When we first stepped into the Eco Truly Park, we had been hiking for 4 days and on a 23 hour busride from Cusco to Lima and we were tired. We also had NO idea that the Eco Truly Village was a Hare Krishna commune. So, you can imagine our surprise when we arrived around 4pm and were ushered into the Hare Krishna temple on a night that was celebrating the spiritual leader's birthday, therefore making Templo last a few hours longer than usual. We were hungry, tired and I had to pee...our bags were locked in the gift store and we just wanted to lay down and rest. Several hours later, after a lot of jumping around, singing, dancing I gave Alex 'the look.' This look basically encapsulated the following statement; "We will nto be staying here and we will be leaving tomorrow!"
I didn't realize it at the time, but Druva (the volunteer coordinator) saw my face and didn't thik that we would last for more than a few days. Well, Alex made me promise to give it one week and I am so glad that I did because there was almost an instantaneous shift in my attitude and feelings about ETP by the next morning. It was only a few days before we left when Druva told me and Al that he was Googling Eco Truly Park blogs and found ours tucked neatly into the list provided by the search engine. He clicked on it and read all the entries I had made about the eco village and was so glad that he was wrong about us from his first impression on the first day. He was also happy that we gave Eco Truly a chance and it ended up making a lasting impression on us. We were happy too...despite being busted, we were proud of ourselves for being able to push through our skepticism and remain open minded enough to milk this place for all it had to offer us, which in the end proved to be immeasurable and unforgettable.
